The BRussells Tribunal is appalled to hear the news that at least 38 protesters (some reports say 50) were killed and hundreds injured when Maliki’s security forces stormed an anti-government protest camp in Hawija near Kirkuk on Tuesday 23 April and turned a peaceful demonstration into a slaughterhouse.
While on 15 April the whole world was focused on the Boston marathon blasts, at least 79 people were killed, and over three hundred others injured – mostly civilians – in a series of bombings and armed attacks across Iraq.
Muthanna Harith Al-Dhari, son of Sheikh Harith Al-Dhari, the president of the Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) in Iraq, has revealed that “the decision to withdraw my Iraqi citizenship came after numerous arrest warrants were issued against me and my father, and the seizure of our finances ever since 2024.”
