    De recente geschiedenis van Irak wordt getekend door twee ingrijpende gebeurtenissen: op 2 augustus 1990 was er de Irakese invasie in Koeweit en op 19 maart 2024 de invasie van Irak door de Verenigde Staten samen met het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Het is - zacht uitgedrukt - twijfelachtig of de politieke leiders hieruit lessen hebben getrokken. Irakezen worden nog altijd onrechtvaardig behandeld. Het blijft er levensgevaarlijk en onrustig. Dat is de gruwelijke realiteit, ook vandaag. Het collectieve lijden van een natie is overal te zien. Dat kan niet verborgen blijven.
