Président Barack Obama a annoncé le retrait de la plupart des troupes américaines en Irak pour la fin du mois d'août 2010. Il a félicité le progrès accompli mais avertit: «L'Irak n'est pas encore un lieu sûr, et des jours difficiles s'annoncent."





«La stratégie militaire basée sur la conquête et l'occupation, a été conçue en vue d'établir une présence coloniale, militaire et durable, sous forme de bases militaires stratégiques avec un contingent de conseillers militaires coloniaux et des unités de combat qui est important et soutenu. L'occupation coloniale et brutale d'un Etat indépendant et laïque, qui connaît une histoire nationaliste, d'un Etat qui a une infrastructure avancée, des appareils militaire et policier sophistiqués, de vastes services publics et où l'alphabétisation est bien répandue, conduit naturellement à la croissance d'un large éventail de militants et de mouvements anti-occupation armés. Lieven De Cauter is a philosopher, writer and art historian. He teaches philosophy of culture (in Leuven, Brussels and Rotterdam). He published several books: on contemporary art, experience and modernity, on Walter Benjamin and more recently on architecture, the city and politics. Besides this he published poems, columns, statements, pamphlets and opinion pieces in newspapers and on the web. His latest book is The Capsular Civilization. On the City in the Age of Fear (2004). Heterotopia and the city. Public space in a postcivil society (Routledge) was published, which he edited together with Michiel Dehaene, was published in 2008.Russells Tribunal and is co-founder of the ‘Platform for Liberty of Expression’. He was guest curator of ‘Hidden Cities’ (with Michiel Dehaene) in the Rotterdam Architectural Biennal (2007) and of ‘Decolonizing Architecture. Hana Albayaty, a French/Iraqi analyst and activist born in France in 1979, is currently based in Egypt. First studied political science and international relations at South Bank University in London and later completed a DESS in political documentary film making in France. She directed two documentary films, "Dar Al Salam", on the Palestinian question, and "On Democracy in Iraq", an archive of a meeting of the Iraqi opposition that rejected and condemned, in February 2003 in London, the illegal US invasion of Iraq and anticipated the failure of the US occupation. One of the organizers of The BRussells Tribunal hearing on the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) in April 2004, she is now a member of its Advisory Committee. She was a member of the World Tribunal on Iraq Jury of Conscience in June 2005 in Istanbul. She has written several opinion pieces exposing US genocidal policies in Iraq for Al-Ahram Weekly newspaper and is coordinator of the Iraqi International Initiative on Refugees.

Dirk Adriaensens is coordinator of SOQS Iraq, an organization that campaigned against the sanctions imposed on Iraq (1990-2003).  He is also a member of the executive committee of the BRussells Tribunal. Co-organizer of the World Tribunal on Iraq (2003-2005)

Max Fuller has worked for some years as a member of the Colombia Solidarity Campaign in the UK and has read extensively on US policy and Latin America. He is the author of several reports published in the 'Bulletin of the Colombia Solidarity Campaign'. Max Fuller is the author of ‘For Iraq, the Salvador Option Becomes Reality’  and 'Crying Wolf: Media Disinformation and Death Squads in Occupied Iraq' , both published by the Centre for Research on Globalisation. He is a member of the BRussells Tribunal Advisory Committee where he has published several articles: Conflicting Media Accounts: Evidence of Iraqi Death Squad Conspiracy  and  Diyala - A Laboratory of Civil War?  He is an authority in the field of  "Death Squads" and "the Salvador Option ". II am thankful for receiving an advanced copy of this important study.  Even a brief look reveals a harrowing tale. I plan to draw on it for a forthcoming book and in talks. I have a lot more to say about the book and hope to find some opportunity soon to write more about it.
